My Therapeutic Approach

Relational, Psychodynamic Therapy

My therapeutic orientation, or the style of therapy that I practice, is a relational, psychodynamic approach. This means I believe much of our psychological and physical stressors arise from the ways that the relationships around us shape who we are and how we consciously, and unconsciously, act within them. Whether it be romantic, sexual, platonic, familial, or professional, I deeply enjoy working with clients to better understand how and why they think, feel, and act as participants within these different relationships.

Being able to highlight these relational dynamics in our sessions makes for incredibly fruitful work because we will be creating real-time observations on what can be difficult for you in your interpersonal relationships. I like to help clients get to the root of their problems, not just address their symptoms. Therefore, I will be working to develop a genuine, comfortable, and depth-oriented relationship with you so that you feel safe and adequately challenged in our work together. However, since it can take time to establish a deeper, more trusting therapeutic relationship, I tend to work with clients who are looking to meet consistently and for long-term psychotherapy. In my experience, the impact of this approach can be profound in fundamentally changing the way you engage with yourself and your interpersonal relationships.

An Integrative, Client-Centered Approach

At the core of my approach is the understanding that the best therapy is done when client and therapist collaborate together. As such, I tailor my therapy to learn about and meet your specific needs. I recognize that these needs might also change over time. I have additional training in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), family systems, emotion-focused therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method. All of these modalities are folded into my clinical work to help meet you where you are at on your mental health journey. Additionally, these different approaches can help establish clear goals for treatment and provide foundational tools to improve skill-building throughout the therapy.

In the therapy room, I strive to provide authenticity, warmth, curiosity, and humor in each session. I want to get to know you - the real you, the you that not everyone else might get to see. In giving you the space to open up, I hope to help you cultivate a newfound confidence in yourself and your relationships. I will meet you where you are on your journey and help you get to where you want to go.
